Christmas Lights Group Run 2018

Local runners are invited to get together for a fun night group run with a Christmas theme on Friday 21st December 2018.

We’ll meet at Sante Fe on Beach Street Merimbula from 7:00PM onward to hydrate and ‘light-up’ beforehand, then set off about 8:30PM for a fun 5km or 2.5km run/jog/walk, spreading our Christmas cheer.

The route will start at the flag poles on the corner of Beach and Market, and head out 1.25km to halfway along Fishen road before returning to start for 2.5km, and repeating the route for 5km.

Everyone is invited to get creative with their Christmas costume and adorn themselves with Christmas lights – let’s have some fun.

After the run we invite runners to return to Sante Fe to relax with a drink/meal.

Please RSVP by marking yourself as ‘attending’ on the Facebook and/or Strava event so we can advise venue of anticipated numbers.

Sapphire Coast Runners are pleased to be launching a Club Library so to help runners educate themselves about all things running.

How it works:

  1. Sapphire Coast Runners will establish a book collection for the club through various means:
    – People can donate a book to the borrowing pool
    – People can lend a book to the borrowing pool for a limited period
    – The club may allocate funds to purchase new books for the borrowing pool
  2. A borrowing list is maintained by the committee and posted on the Sapphire Coast Runners Chat group on Facebook
  3. Members request to borrow books by posting on the borrowing list post, and arranging a handover from the person that currently has it

Committee Member Steph Auston will be coordinating the library, and is now welcoming book donations for the library.  Please contact Steph via links on the committee contacts page

Urban Rogaine Event Report – 24/06/18

The club’s first rogaining event was held on Sunday 24 June.

Rogaining is a team activity for people of all ages and levels of fitness. It is a orienteering type event and is a great way to explore around the local area (in this case Merimbula and Mirador). It involves navigating your way around on foot to various checkpoints within a set period of time.

The inaugural Urban Rogaine was a great success with all 13 teams enjoying themselves and exploring some of the more obscure features of Merimbula.

In the end, all teams opted for the 90min event and spread out all over town to the different checkpoints. Most teams chose to stick to the flatter areas of town and fishpen, with just a few spreading into the hillier areas. No-one attempted to reach the checkpoints in Mirador in the available time. One team took a very extreme shortcut in their course and actually swam across from Spencer park to Mitchies Jetty rather than run all the way around over the bridge (they are definitely braver than me in the winter conditions!)

  1. The results were:
  2. Lisa and the fur girls 840 points (including 50 bonus points)
  3. Short smart and speedy 660 points
  4. Heather Gee’s team 620 points
  5. No class all ass 620 points
  6. Bega vets 550 points
  7. Charlie’s Angels 480 points
  8. Kym O’Halloran & Lochie 470 points
  9. Gibbons girls 350 points
  10. Team Lane 350 points
  11.  Long & short of it 330 points (including 50 bonus points)
  12. Roberts’ rockets 320 points
  13. No direction 290 points
  14. Elliot’s dragons 130 points

Congratulations to all those teams who participated and the organising crew (Michelle, Andy & Gus) who ensured the event was a success.

Given the interest, it looks like there will be more of these events in the future.
